Helping with water supply in Tentaguazu
Sunday September 29th, 2024
In February of last year, the “Napichan” drinking water system in the lowlands of Tarija was completely overhauled (see Chaski from February 2023). It supplies the community of Tentaguazu and four surrounding Guaraní villages. Local users’ drinking water committees now look after the operation and maintenance of the system, but sometimes there is a lack of tools, spare parts or expertise. Thus, this year we have signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Tarija, which is sending two interns who help the communities on site. We provide support with transportation and tools. The aim is to strengthen the sustainability of water supply in one of the driest areas of Bolivia. Revising the different parts of the system, which extends over miles. This includes chores such as testing the water pressure at different points and checking suspicious parts of the mains for leaks and clogging.
